DR. GERDIEN VAN SCHAIK

Dr. Gerdien van Schaik has a Masters degree in Animal Science of Wageningen
University. As a part of her masters degree she worked at the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya and at the Dairy Research Corporation in New Zealand.

In 2000, she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Animal Health Economics at Wageningen University. She investigated the risk and economics of disease introduction into dairy farms and part of this research was carried out at the Department of Population Medicine of the University of Guelph, Canada and at the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences of Cornell University, USA.

Subsequently she worked for two years as a postdoctoral researcher mainly on M. paratuberculosis at the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences of Cornell University.

Currently, she is associate professor at the Instituto de Medicina Preventiva Veterinaria of the Universidad Austral in Valdivia, Chile.
